Fly Fishing in Austria - Fly Fishing in the Alps - Fly Fishing in Tyrol
The region is one of the top addresses for discerning fly fishermen. Within just a thirty-minute drive, you can reach around seventy kilometres of watercourses and five lakes. The watercourses boast stable stocks of brown and rainbow trout as well as grayling and offer varied, sometimes technically challenging fishing. The lakes are home to large pike, lake trout, whitefish, arctic char, carp and aitel - ideal conditions for specialised and seasonal fishing.
Lech Fly Fishing presents on this page Sustainably managed and natural routes with challenging water conditions and breathtaking alpine landscapes. The last savage of the Northern Alps meanders freely through a gravel bed in the Lech Valley, often several hundred metres wide. Its water repeatedly divides into distant branches, only to join up again soon afterwards. In the river, long, deep stretches alternate with shallow, wide passages, overlaps and circling pools. The trout enjoy perfect cover in the dead wood. However, when the dry fly drifts seductively on the surface of the water, hardly any trout can resist this temptation.

The leading fish is the brown trout, accompanied by grayling and rainbow trout. The number of daily licences per district is only two or three. This ensures low fishing pressure. There is therefore a good chance that you will not see another fly fisherman on the water all day while you are trying to outwit the game fish.

The hunting grounds are sustainably managed in accordance with the standards of the Wild fish stock Tiroler Lech managed. For years, stocking has therefore been carried out exclusively by means of cocooning or artificial nests - i.e. with eyepoint eggs - and freshly hatched trout. The genetic material for this comes from Lech trout. This produces wild fish offspring that are optimally adapted to this extraordinary river and are particularly resilient. We are also committed to the restoration and maintenance of spawning habitats and endeavour to educate and train people according to the principle „People protect what they know“.
Fishing follows rules for the careful and humane handling of caught fish. For us Fly Only & low removals to help build healthy and abundant fish stocks for the future. We protect small fish and large specimens through harvest windows. On the one hand, the large specimens are enormously valuable for reproduction - exponentially more and larger eggs - and secondly, catching such fish brings a special sparkle to the eyes of every fly fisherman. The bottom line is that natural spawning behaviour should be stimulated until stocking our waters with fertilised eggs (cocooning, artificial nests) and fry is no longer necessary. Maintaining a sufficient stock of fish capable of spawning to ensure natural offspring is therefore at the forefront of our conservation efforts.
